The Classrooms Pre-Montessori room In this room we provide constructive, imaginatative and creative play, which promotes listening skills, social skills, and emotional development. This section of the school aims to promote individuality and confidence building, and equally importantly the interaction with children of a similar age. We encourage this through various aspects of play, rhymes, and singing. Messy room/Free play This is the room where the children can experiment with sand, water, clay, and playdoh. The child is given the opportunity to paint with a variety of mediums as well as gluing, collage work and drawing. We allow the child to explore all aspects of creative work. Completed work is collected into a portfolio, which is taken home at the end of each year. Constructive, manipulative and imaginary play is also encouraged in this room to aid the childs social development and to enhance their language and listening skills. Outdoor play area We are extremely proud of our outdoor play area where the children are allowed to explore free play as well as taking part in organised games. We have a variety of exciting toys and features in this area and all the activities are fully supervised. Montessori classroom The montessori method is an indirect teaching method because it neither imposes on the child nor abandons him/her in totally free play. Rather it provides a carefully planned and structured environment in which the child can learn in a natural way with the best possible opprtunity for reaching their potential. The child moves freely around the classroom working with any equipment he/she chooses or asking the teacher to introduce new materials, but he/she is not free to disturb others who are working.Through this freedom of movement and the Montessori exercises for the care of the environment, care of self and development of social skills, the child is helped towards social awareness.Experience of the natural environment helps the child to acheive harmony with it. It also contributes to the childs spiritual growth. Back to prospectus menu. |
